Monuments
Location: 20:00 yest, stuck outside Penn Station Mood: grateful Music: I'm down to a whisper In a daydream on a hill
DC was nice, as always.
Went there and back via train. Neither my life nor the trains I ride run on (or close) to schedule.
The weather was amazing on Sunday so we took a walk to Lincoln and Vietnam Memorial. Turns out the reflecting pool does actually reflect - it's a mobile phone shot but y'can still see it.
Nuthin like it on a nice sunny day with the blue sky.
Went to the Vietnam Memorial for the first time. Quite something. Dunno if y'know this but Ross Perot sponsored a design competition for it and when Maya Lin, a 21 year-old Asian nobody - a gook - won it with a black slab, he and a tona others were pissed. Onea them shouldn't be building a Vietnam Memorial.
The New York Times, headlined, Insulting Vietnam Vets. Where were the statues, the flags? Looked like a tombstone.
Kinda reminds me of alla the political ruckus over everything these days. Everyone's so sure they're right; all this sound and fury signifying nuthin.
So a few meters away from the memorial that was actually built, Perot had a statue put up.
A teenage girl was talking on her cell phone when I went to visit and about a third of the way in, think she finally realized what she was reading, hung up her phone, and quietly walked the resta the way.
Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan, all the critics did similar things when the actually saw the thing. Every organization that attacked Maya later apologized.
Cause Maya knew that when you put up names, a lista people kids that got themselves killed for a country that hated them, it's hard to ignore that they existed.
It's quite something.

Mii
Location: 11:06 yest, H&H Bagels Mood: really busy Music: You can never get enough Enough of this stuff
Had a nice St. Valentine's day with a quiet dinner. And Heartgirl demolishing me in Big Brain Academy.
----------
A neighbor's bumped into me and several women I've dated. It's a running joke between us. Ran into her again over the weekend and I told her about Heartgirl.
Her: Four months? That's a record for you! S'funny cause alla my college friends knew me as the serial monogamist. Friday, saw an old buddy that only knew me as the computer guy with all the suits yet another friend says he's never seen me in anything but tee-shirts and jeans.
A guy I tangled with was surprised I had a college degree. A girl I tangoed with was surprised I had my quiet nights.
S'funny what people think we are and what we think we are. Me? I think I'm just a recovering dork that doesn't mind so much any more - see below for proof.
BTW, since I'm not dating wildly any more, read my friend Trix's blog for a woman's perspective in NYC dating: Friday I'm in Love.
Trix: [Dating] hasn't been as fun lately. I just got tired of it.
Me: It does get tiring - all the hellos and goodbyes... Her: ...and the crazy.

Elsewho
Location: 19:00 yest, Malachy's with Heidi and Buckley Mood: sotted Music: I used to go out to parties and stand around
My mind's elsewhere, and elsewho, again. At least it's the weekend.
Rain: Can I borrow your phone? Me: (absentmindedly) Sure.
Rain: Here you go. Me: Thanks. Hey - what'd you do?
Rain: Nuthin! So paranoid... I'm in a 300 year old building in Passau that's been converted to apartments. The ceilings are high with wooden floors and painted on the entire far wall is a pop art portrait of a blond girl crying. Honey and Katherine are there. We'd just gotten back from Vienna. A woman I love is there too. She whispers her nonsense word into my ear and I whisper mine back. We're having an early dinner of pasta when Marvin Gaye comes on.
Honey shrieks, and jumps onto the table to dance when my girl pulls me up and says, "You too" as I laugh and follow. She smiles, turns back to me and says - (phone alarm rings, it's 5:15AM in NYC)
Me: (sit up and look groggily at phone) Dammit Rain...dammit...
Fall back into bed and plot revenge against Rain. Sigh. Toss off covers. Flip on Ghosts of Goodbye and start doing situps as ghosts fade away.
Eins, zwei, drei...

There's no place to hide
Location: 21:00 yest, ordering another roti in Jackson Heights Mood: full Music: remember when you used to pick out my shirts?
(If you like my taste in music, please email me at: logan607 at hotmail. I have an idea.)
What do you think of those happy dreams where you wake up and it was just that - a happy dream? Is it better to have them so it's real, if only for a bit, or not have them at all?
I've been sleeping very little these days and it shows on my face. But this week I dreamt of my possible pasts.
Once got into a stupid argument with No 2. I went off to class, then to my usual study place in the library and there she was. She drove two hours to see me. I guess I dreamt of it causa my brother visiting me. She's married now and happy I heard. I'm glad. I was just awful to her. Awful.
S'bad enough I run into old ghosts on the streets. Now they're visiting me in my dreams.
Should you need me this weekend, I'll be the dude swimming in a vat of rum. Please don't interrupt.
----------
Met a girlie a while back; I'm hoping to run into her again this weekend.
'Scuse me darlin', lemme cross?
I'm not your darling.
Huh. It's early yet. Y'could be.
